BYD, a Chinese manufacturer, has been imported into Israel since 2022 by Shlomo Motors (Shlomo group). It is one of the country’s best-selling electric brands: number one in 2023, and in 2024 over the first five months of the year. At John Auto: 8 BYD models, from about ₪115,000 (Dolphin Surf) to about ₪238,000 (Sealion 7). Almost the whole range is electric (Dolphin Surf, Dolphin, Atto 2, Atto 3, Seal, Sealion 7); the Sealion 5 is a plug-in hybrid, and the Seal U comes as an electric or a plug-in hybrid. List prices as of October 2026, before the olim benefit. Olim benefit: on an electric BYD, the saving is usually small or nil, because electric cars are already taxed less for everyone. Yes: the loan balance is repaid when you sell, and we help you with the paperwork. If your BYD was bought with the olim discount, you are free to resell it after 4 years; before that, it is possible after 1 year by paying the tax difference, or to another oleh, who then starts a new 4-year period.
An oleh hadash does not pay purchase tax (mas kniya) on a new BYD: they pay about 77 % in taxes (customs duty and VAT) instead of about 116 % or 131 % for a regular buyer. The saving is often tens of thousands of shekels on a petrol or hybrid car; on most electric cars it is zero, as they are already taxed less for everyone. We calculate the amount for the chosen model and prepare the file.

Documents required: oleh certificate (teudat oleh), passport, proof of residence in Israel, bank statements for the last 3 months, payslip or proof of income. If you are self-employed, we accept financial statements. Our team helps you put together the best possible file to maximise your chances of approval.

It depends on your situation. Leasing (lease with an option to buy) gives lower monthly payments; a loan makes you the owner straight away and is often cheaper over time. The olim discount is still possible with leasing, provided the car is in your name. Our advisors compare both options for your situation.

For a BYD in stock, delivery can be very fast, sometimes within the hour, otherwise within a few days. For an order (specific version or colour), allow several weeks. We keep you informed at every step, and the car is delivered anywhere in Israel, registered in your name.
As a rule, no: the olim discount applies to a new car. The exception is buying from another oleh who bought it with their rights, in which case you start a new 4-year period. That is why we work with new BYD cars. The warranty depends on the importer: manufacturer’s warranty with the official importer, otherwise the parallel importer’s warranty; we tell you before you sign.

Only the oleh and their spouse may drive it. A couple is entitled to only one car with the discount, even if both are olim.

Servicing and warranty go through the car’s importer: the official importer of BYD in Israel, or a parallel importer depending on the model. Before you sign, we tell you who imports the car and which warranty applies. Our English-speaking team remains your contact and liaises with the importer if needed.
