What makes the difference is how the rear seats will really be used.<\/p>\n<h2>The third row: for whom, and how often?<\/h2>\n<p>In the most compact 7-seater SUVs, the third row is for occasional use: it suits children well, adults less so on a long trip. Large SUVs and people carriers offer a real third row where an adult sits comfortably, but they cost more, use more fuel and are harder to park in town.<\/p>\n<p>Be honest about it: if the 7 seats are used every day for the children, a compact SUV is often enough. With the third row in place, the boot of a compact SUV often shrinks to a few shopping bags or a folded pushchair. For holidays with 7 people, you need a large SUV, a people carrier or a roof box. On the test drive, raise all 7 seats and put in the boot what you really carry.<\/p>\n<h2>Child seats: what Israeli law says<\/h2>\n<p>In Israel, a child must travel in a car seat or on a booster suited to their height and weight until the age of 8. The authorities recommend keeping the booster until around 10, or until 1.45 m. A hybrid cuts the bill in town. A plug-in hybrid runs on electricity for everyday trips if you can charge it at home; otherwise it uses as much as a heavier petrol car.
